Ben Case runner under the radar

Croco Bay has not had the chance of competing on soft ground since his three good runs in a row back in Nov-Mar 2015. Last Saturday at Cheltenham he was running a big race when unseating his rider two out and he can improve on this the next time he gets his ideal conditions. He made up a lot of ground on the leaders at Cheltenham and took off in third place when getting rid of his jockey two out. He was held up out the back on a day when it paid to be much closer to the pace. Hopefully he might be a little under the radar due to the impressive nature of Fox Norton’s victory. He has been left on a mark of 146 and would re oppose the winner on 15lbs better terms should they meet again in the near future. He runs tomorrow at Ascot in the 2.25 and, although I hope he performs well, the object of the exercise will surely be for him to put in a clear round of jumping and complete the course. The Ascot race he won in late November two years ago is far more likely to provide the soft surface which brings out the best in him. Hopefully he can head back to Ascot on the 19th November with a clear round under his belt over the same course and distance. One to watch…..
