MANIFESTO NOVICES’ CHASE GRADE 1 – REVIEW

Flying Angel

6th April 2017 – April – This was a very gutsy effort in the finish from a most willing horse. His previous winning form has been on a softer surface than this one so he may be better than this with some cut. It was interesting to hear Noel Fehily say post-race that he thought he would have been competitive in the finish of the JLT at the point he was badly hampered at the 11th fence. Flying Angel’s overall, final circuit plus his time from the fourth last to the line all compared extremely favourably with those set by Tea For two and Double W’s in the other chases on the card.

Cloudy Dream

6th April 2017 – April – My guess is that Brian Hughes would delay his challenge a fraction if he had his time again. I suspect that he just gave this rather quirky horse enough time to think about it when delivering him to lead in between the final two flights.

Top Notch

6th April 2017 – April – He was bang there until the approach to the final fence. He was left behind from thereon in and it is more than possible that he was feeling the effects of his season.

Max Ward

6th April 2017 – April – He travelled beautifully into the race before appearing to run out of stamina before the final fence.

Frodon

6th April 2017 – April – He was rather found out here on this step up in class. Whether this was in part or even mainly due to him having been on the go since last September – who knows… it is certainly a possibility.

Cyrius Moriviere

6th April 2017 – April – The one thing you would say about him is that his astute trainer certainly holds him in high esteem. He will quite possibly turn out to be a fair bit better than he has looked so far this season.
