RELKEEL HURDLE GRADE 2 – REVIEW

Agrapart

1st January 2017 – Cheltenham – He lost a few lengths plus plenty of momentum with a mistake four out and appeared to have lost all chance. He did remarkably well to battle back, therefore, and get up on the line to beat L’Ami Serge. He only has form on testing ground and has his stamina to prove for three miles so quotes of 33/1 for the Stayers Hurdle look to be in the right ball park.

L’Ami Serge

1st January 2017 – Cheltenham – He looks like a two mile horse to me and I doubt we will see him tried over this trip again in a hurry. He may get two and a half miles on a decent surface but he has so much speed and really goes through this soft ground well. He travelled like much the best horse in this race right up until the final 25 yards. The Betfair Hurdle at Newbury could be on his agenda off 152; whilst I would prefer him over two miles, the National Spirit Hurdle over just shy of two and a half miles would be an obvious target given the likelihood of Fontwell providing soft ground on that day.

Cole Harden

1st January 2017 – Cheltenham – He has finished well beaten on soft ground in this race for three seasons in a row now. He will be better on good ground in March and could easily run well and pick up some prize money in another Stayers Hurdle.

Lil Rockerfeller

1st January 2017 – Cheltenham – He was off the bridle and being chased along after making a small error at the fifth hurdle. He never has moved that well through his races but this was easily the worst he has travelled. This was his fourth tough race in just over two months and he might well need to be kept fresh for March after this dismal display. He is out to 25/1 for March which is disappointing as the market often over reacts more than that when a horse with unfashionable connections runs well below form. His overall record this season would still suggest that he has a decent chance of finishing in the first four or five for the Stayers Hurdle.

Camping Ground

1st January 2017 – Cheltenham – This is now six races in a row where he has performed well below the standard he set in the 2016 renewal of this contest.

Adrien Du Pont

1st January 2017 – Cheltenham – He had not been asked the severest of questions when unseating his rider in what appeared to be quite a soft manner at the second last flight. He was three or four lengths down at the time and one would think that STD was holding onto him as long as possible with Adrien Du Pont having his stamina for this trip still to prove.
