Spiritofthegames is an excellent example of a horse with an inflated handicap mark. He is a 134 rated hurdler and yet has found himself with a mark of 148 as a chaser on the strength of an ultimately comfortable success in a race where only two horses finished. The problem being that the runner up on the that day, Monbeg Legend, was rated 147 on the strength of a summer jumps campaign which included two handicap chase successes in May and September at Ludlow and Stratford respectively.
