BETWAY MILDMAY NOVICES’ CHASE GRADE 1 – REVIEW

Might Bite

6th April 2017 – April – This performance lacked the verve of his Cheltenham effort. He ran like this was close to one race too many and I thought his jockey was very sensible up the home straight. Consequently, I feel he had a fair bit more in hand than the winning margin. He went a very strong gallop down the far side for the final time in comparison to Fox Norton; consequently, Whisper has probably done well to stay relatively close to him. He was ‘ahead’ of the Melling Chase winner turning in but slowed down much more up the home straight in comparison with the Tizzard horse

Whisper

6th April 2017 – April – He did not jump as well as the winner but was much better than the other three runners. Unlike the winner he has proved able to run well at both festivals in the past. Might Bite set a very fast pace particularly down the far side for the final time. Whisper may not have appeared to be that fluent; however, I doubt many novice chasers would have been able to stay in touch given the pace set by the winner at that point in the race.

Virgilio

6th April 2017 – April – He ran very well after his break and would have finished much closer but for several mistakes over his fences.
