CHAMPION NOVICE HURDLE GRADE 1 – REVIEW

Reserve Tank

3rd May 2019 – Punchestown – He has improved massively in a short space of time and has progressed again to win this grade one contest. He just held on in a tight finish from a rival that lost two lengths with a mistake at the final hurdle. The favourite was beaten by the second last which needs to be taken on board when assessing the quality of this form.

Sams Profile

3rd May 2019 – Punchestown – I am not sure what happened to him at the second last hurdle at Cheltenham; however it was good to see him return to form here with a very positive run. Perhaps he was unfortunate not to go one better as he hit the last hurdle when challenging the leader and lost at least two lengths in the process.

Eglantine Du Seuil

3rd May 2019 – Punchestown – She was beaten more easily in a mares race last time out which is a point to note. She stayed on well here even though she did not quite have the pace of the first two horses.

Tornado Flyer

3rd May 2019 – Punchestown – He possibly did not enjoy the best of runs through; however he also lacked the tactical speed of the runner up which did not help his cause.

City Island

3rd May 2019 – Punchestown – He looked a danger to all approaching two out but was beaten immediately after that hurdle. The percentage call is that Cheltenham took its toll on him.

Royal Rendezvous

3rd May 2019 – Punchestown – He got loose before the start and had already run his race before the tapes went up. He ran away with his jockey during the race and a line can be drawn through this performance. That is not to say that I will forget how badly he has behaved today.
