DOOM BAR SEFTON NOVICES’ HURDLE GRADE 1 – REVIEW

The Worlds End

7th April 2017 – April – He travelled beautifully through this race and then had to work really hard to hold on in a tight finish. I suspect he would have looked a more impressive winner if held onto longer. Conversely, I am not as convinced as the TV pundits regarding the quality of this form. It may be decent but I will remain open minded on that score for now. This was a fast run race in relation to the one won by Pingshou and this was a real staying performance from the winner. The field slowed down considerably in the home straight after a fast first circuit.

Beyond Conceit

7th April 2017 – April – His jockey delayed his challenge up the straight and then delayed it some more in between the final two flights on this step up in trip. He had a first time hood on which may have made a difference to him as he has been a lot keener than this in the past.

Debece

7th April 2017 – April – He travelled really well throughout the race and was only just beaten in a close finish. He won a handicap off 121 last time out and it would not be too difficult to argue that his proximity to the winner holds the form back a little.

Constantine Bay

7th April 2017 – April – He did remarkably well to go so close in the finish after being off the bridle and ridden from an early stage of the race. He travelled in a not too dissimilar fashion at Doncaster two runs ago and just needs a bit of cut in the ground. He could be very smart indeed when he returns to competing on a soft surface.
