LADBROKES CHAMPION STAYERS HURDLE GRADE 1 – REVIEW

Unowhatimeanharry

2nd May 2019 – Punchestown – As wonderful as it was to see him win another grade one hurdle one would have to say that his success strongly suggests that this was far from a vintage renewal of this race. I think we knew this before the off; however the name of this 11 year old on the winner’s trophy conforms this pre-race view.

Bacardys

2nd May 2019 – Punchestown – He came from a long way back to snatch second spot after the final hurdle. He does tend to run in this way and I suspect there is more than a chance that he will run in behind the front horse even when dropped in grade. I certainly would not want to trust him to win a lesser race if he were trading very short.

Bapaume

2nd May 2019 – Punchestown – Not for the first time he has performed here as if this trip is just beyond his best.

Killultagh Vic

2nd May 2019 – Punchestown – This represents something of a return to form for this 10 year old. I am not sure where they can go with him next season; however at worst he should pick up prize money in one or two decent staying hurdle races.

Aux Ptit Soins

2nd May 2019 – Punchestown – I think his jockey rather went to sleep on the home bend as he lost his position and all chance in the process. I have no strong view either way as to where he would have finished with a better ride; nonetheless, he would surely have finished at least a couple of lengths closer.

Vision Des Flos

2nd May 2019 – Punchestown – He appeared set to go very close when getting the last hurdle badly wrong. He would have stayed on the day; that said I don’t think his performance in this below average renewal has proved his stamina for three miles at the highest level.

Not Many Left

2nd May 2019 – Punchestown – He was held up out the back before making strong headway in the home straight. He appeared set to finish thereabouts when taking a heavy fall at the final hurdle.
