TOP NOVICES’ HURDLE GRADE 1 – REVIEW

Felix Desjy

5th April 2019 – Aintree – He has made all the running and jumped quick and well aside from one almighty error at the first down the far side. He took off far too early there and really dragged his legs after the hurdle. He has a lot of speed and had something in reserve despite that mistake. I suspect there is a reasonable chance that the drying ground has given front runners something of an advantage today.

Aramon

5th April 2019 – Aintree – The soft ground was blamed for his Cheltenham defeat. On this drying ground he found it very hard to peg back the all the way winner. The evidence of the day suggests that the front was probably the place to be.

Rouge Vif

5th April 2019 – Aintree – He appeared to enjoy the run of the race sat just behind the all the way winner. Once push came to shove, however, he had little in reserve. He has performed to his level in a race where he probably enjoyed a better trip than most.

Itchy Feet

5th April 2019 – Aintree – He was never travelling from the first hurdle and has eventually run past beaten horses to nick fourth place close home. Whether he needs another half a mile or was just feeling the effects of his hard race in the Supreme is open to debate.

Winston C

5th April 2019 – Aintree – He has performed to his previous best and, at the same time, there might be some improvement over a longer trip next season

Precious Cargo

5th April 2019 – Aintree – He never really got competitive at any stage of this race. I would think that being held up out the back today would be some sort of disadvantage at best and perhaps a significant negative.

Southfield Stone

5th April 2019 – Aintree – He was beaten before three out and maybe just needs top of the ground. Even this drying ground was probably too soft for his liking. He will have his day on a fast surface next season.
